North Carolina-

My paternal side of the family has been in the Lower Cape Fear region of North Carolina since the arrival of my second great grandfather Stephen Fales in Greenville Point outside of Wilmington in the mid 1800’s. After my Great Grandfather James Monroe Fales relocated into Wilmington after the turn of the 20th century, my grandfather William Thomas Fales married Iscelene Potter and called Wilmington their home. My grandfather was a master welder and during WWII built Liberty Ships at the Wilmington Shipyard. He retired at Babcock & Wilcox.

My father Gene Fales married my mother Elizabeth Johnson Fales. After my fathers’ early years as an Industrial Engineer with Burlington Industries, I grew up working in several successful family-owned businesses in Greensboro NC that included Distribution, Mail Order and Commercial Construction / Development. At an early age I found that hard work, determination and being honest would take me into real estate and helping others.

South Carolina-

My maternal side in South Carolina extends 10 generations to the original settlers in Charleston in 1670. After settling throughout the Low County for centuries my family called Horry County home around 1823 when my second great grandfather John ‘Black Jack’ Johnson was born in Dog Bluff.

My great grandfather George Oliver Johnson married Tronie Elizabeth Elvis. Gran George was a businessman man and entrepreneur in the Aynor / Galivants Ferry area of Horry County.  He had a reputation as a man who made good decisions, was generous with his friendship and love of family.  A self-made man who learned his trade (farming) on his own. My grandfather James ‘Leo’ Johnson had a 50-year career working for E. Craig Wall with Canal Wood Industries in the pulp wood industry. Leo married my grandmother Annie Dorothy Clardy who was named after her grandmother Annie Stalvey. Leo and Annie loved their family and ‘most’ of their siblings. She made the best chocolate layer cake ever.

My other great grandfather was

Lauren Dekalb Clardy. Lauren was a keen businessman who owned the original Esso Gas Station in Myrtle Beach. He was honest and treated all he met with respect and loved his family. He was related to many of the Stalveys from Socastee. After marrying Dorothy Ann Johnson of Burgess SC they made their original home at their farm on Peachtree Rd. They re-located to Myrtle Beach where I spent time during my early years with her, especially in 1989 when I lived briefly in Myrtle Beach.  At that time, I learned about her family the Johnsons from Burgess SC, and  the Marlows from the surrounding areas.
